Woman Campaigns to Keep Her Cat Killer Behind Bars

Mr. Frank and PiggyBridgett Wright of Kentucky whose felines were murdered by an ongoing animal torturer has launched a movement to try to keep the animal killer in prison.

The petition calls on officials to reject the parole for Russell Swigart, who was sentenced to twelve years behind bars for breaking into Wright’s home on September 25, 2008 and slaughtering her cats Mr. Frank and Piggy with an eleven inch knife. After serving less than 2 1/2 years of his 12-year prison sentence.

Russell Swigart, a convicted abuser and serial animal killer, had been caught up in a short, on and off idealistic relationship that ended in the middle of 2007. In October of 2008, Swigart sent Wright a large quantity of distressing text messages while she was without prior notice out of town on business. Swigart said he knew where she stayed and wanted her dead, and in his last text, he told her that he had murdered both her cats by stabbing them.

Swigart was convicted and sentenced to twelve years behind bars for breaking into Wright’s home in 2008 and murdering her felines, Piggy and Mr. Frank.

“What Bridgett Wright is doing here is amazing,” said Ben Rattray, creator and CEO of Change.org. “As an alternative of living in fear, she’s taken the topic into her own hands, reached out all over the country and gathered an unbelievable amount of support for holding Mr. Swigart responsible for his brutal crimes. Change.org is about empowering people to fight for the change they want to see in the world, and it’s been a privilege to support such an inspirational movement.”

Former Kenton County Assistant Commonwealth’s lawyer Justin Sanders has written a letter to Kentucky’s parole board asking its members to order Swigart to serve out his entire sentence in prison.

Swigart has a long record of using violent behavior against pets to frighten and threaten women. He has a lot of domestic violence convictions and seeks revenge on his victims by torturing and murdering their pets, according to court records. Swigart “has left a trail of emotionally distress.” Sanders wrote.

“It is very important that Kentucky’s society feels free and safe to end bad relationships, to break up with their boyfriend, or girlfriend without fear of revenge.” Sanders wrote.

Kentucky was just recently ranked the most terrible state in the country for animal cruelty laws by the Animal Legal Defense Fund. Swigart was the 1st person to be convicted in the state of Kentucky under Romeo’s Law, which made animal crulty a felony.

  1. We have 2 cats and 2 dogs and I can’t believe how some people can abuse a poor innocent animal. Then once you start reading you then realize that he was using this tactic to scare the women.
I’m so glad that I saw this page and will sign the petition.

    • Thank you Patricia,
This guy is crazy and needs to stay locked up. Most serial killers started out by killing pets.

  2. Thank you, Brad, for posting & spreading the word!! I am hopeful that with the help of concerned citizens like you, I can keep this abuser behind bars! Take care, Bridgett (Mr. Frank & Piggy’s Mom)

    • I’m very sorry about your loss Bridgett. This man needs to stay locked up. It is well know that people “graduate” from torturing animals to torturing people. Eventually, he’ll kill one of the women he stalks and the parole board will have that hanging over their heads.

  3. Well the state can’t give the same sentence for killing an animal as killing a person. I am sure many animal lovers do disagree with me. After all an animal is an animal. She did serve 2 1/2 years that is enough. There is no reason tax payers should continue paying for her to be behind bars.

    • @tom – first off its a “He” not a “she” and this wacko needs to stay behind bars because this is not his first time doing this and he has the potential to start killing his girl friends and if your worried about tax’s maybe you should start worrying about people that are doing years behind bars for stupid crimes like driving on a suspended licence and not for potential serial killers like this. This is an old post so keep plaining to spend your tax dollars on this guy because he is not getting out any time soon, Parole Denied.
