A Cat Named Boots Was Saved From A South Berwick Storm Drain

Cat Boots In DrainSouth Berwick, Maine, a cat named Boots was rescued from a storm drain grate Thursday morning. Boots was freezing cold and tired but otherwise fine.

It seems that Boots had been trying to find her way out of a drain pipe from across the street of her Highland Avenue home when she tried to get out through one of the 3” X 3” openings in the storm drain grate.

Boots had got her head out but not her body, which remained trapped inside the storm drain, with her rear legs and tail touching the ice in the storm drain.

“The cat had lost its energy and was very cold,” said South Berwick Police Lt. Chris Burbank, when she was seen by a person driving by early Thursday morning.

Burbank said South Berwick police and the Department of Public Works workers had to chip out the ice-encrusted snow over part of the storm grate and carefully lifted the grate with the cat still stuck in it.

The cats, owner Patti and Peter Stevens took Boots to the South Berwick Veterinary Hospital where it was sedated and the storm grate was easily removed.

Dr. Amanda Rizner from the South Berwick Veterinary Hospital said that by Thursday afternoon, Boots had recovered from sedation and was hungry. She’s lost some weight and was still cold, but was likely to recover entirely and head home before the end of the day.

Doesn’t It Make You Happy That Someone Found Her When They Did?
