The Egyptian Mau Cat has a glossy, dense, and silky coat. Its coat is medium in length. The eyes are big and are angled a little toward the cat’s ears. The color of the Mau’s eyes is a light green. The large and attentive ears are medium in size. The head is like a wedge somewhat rounded. The Egyptian Mau cat is a average sized cat that is muscular. The legs are in proportion to the body. The tail is medium long and is somewhat tapering and thick at the base. The Mau is long, elegant, and muscular with a walk like a cheetah. A single flap of skin extends from the flank to the back knee, which allows for a superior length of stride and quickness. The Egyptian Mau is the fastest of the domestic cats, clocked at more than 30 MPH.

History of the Egyptian Mau

The Egyptian Mau graced Ancient Egyptian art as early as 2000 B.C. all the way through most of the Ancient Egyptian timeline; these cats were seen as both loving companions to be cherished and important protectors to be honored. Egyptian Mau’s were originally trained to hunt prey and return to their humans with the bounty. They were also raised to safeguard crops by keeping away small rodents that would destroy them. Cats were held in such respect that if someone was to be caught murdering a cat in this period of time, they would be stoned to death for their crime.

  1. I own an Egyptian Mau female. i have papers on here, but she is fixed. Can I still register her even thou she cannot produce?? Very lovely cat and beautiful!! Please help!
